Why Acid Load Slows Weight Loss – My Experience

Many people wonder why they don’t lose weight despite eating healthy or following diets – a frequently underestimated reason is chronic acid overload.

That was exactly the case for me. Here, I’ll show step by step what specifically helped me –and what role minerals, spices and flour-based products play in this.

What really happens in the body when you are overacidified:


1. Fermentation Processes in the Gut – Flour-Based Products as a Problem Factor


Flour-based products like bread, pasta or cakes can trigger actual fermentation processes in the gut.


These produce acids and burden the body with unwanted metabolic byproducts.


That weakens the metabolism and promotes inflammation – exactly what you want to avoid when trying to lose weight.

2. Starch as a Glue – and Why Too Much Can Slow Down Your Metabolism

Foods like potatoes, rice or pasta contain a lot of starch. From a certain amount onward, it acts like a glue that slows down the metabolism.

How much one can tolerate depends, among other things, on:

  • current bowel function

  • physical fitness

  • general health condition

  • mental state


Minerals: The Underrated Key Factor

Minerals help the body to eliminate excess acids. They support the regeneration of inflamed areas, improve cell function – and, as a side effect, even improve sleep.


Spices – Little Helpers with a Big Impact

Curry and turmeric don’t just add flavor – they have diuretic and anti-inflammatory effects. That made a huge difference for me – especially with water retention and “puffy” skin.


Changing My Diet – Cutting Back on Flour & Co.

I consistently reduced all common types of flour (wheat, rye, barley, rice ...) and the products made from them (bread, cake, pizza, cookies, etc.).

I also cut down on rice and potato dishes (mashed potatoes, dumplings, etc.).

I allowed myself two exceptions per week – that was my compromise.


Cell Metabolism as the Key to Weight Loss

When the cells are over-acidified, they can barely function properly. The body then retains water – the cells swell up. This can intensify cellulite and edema. It was only after I specifically de-acidified that I was able to burn fat noticeably – in a lasting way.


Background: Digestive Issues and Fermentation Processes

More than 20 years ago, studies already showed: In over 90% of people over the age of 30, digestion no longer functions optimally. When the intestine is sluggish, it can no longer properly break down food.

The result:

  • Bloating and a feeling of fullness

  • Fatigue after eating

  • Gases, acids, and even toxins from bacterial metabolism


Illustrative Example:

Try this: Leave a pot of cooked noodles at 37 °C for three days.

After just a short time, the starch they contain starts to ferment – the pot turns sour. Exactly the same thing can happen in the body.


And not only if digestion is sluggisch - but also if too many starch- or gluten-containing foods are consumed over a long period


What happens then?

Part of the digestive work is handed over to bacteria in the intestines. These begin to ferment the remaining carbohydrates.

This produces:

  • organic acids

  • gases

  • and other burdensome metabolic by-products

These can enter the bloodstream and lymphatic system through the intestinal wall – especially when the intestinal lining is already irritated or permeable (keyword: leaky gut).



Possible consequences include:

Systemic overacidity, fatigue, inflammatory processes, “food coma” after eating – and a slowdown of the metabolism, even if not much was eaten.
